This hand-made Santa Clara redware bowl was made by Douglas Tafoya. It is hand coiled , sanded, slip applied, stone polished and then fired outdoors. This color is fused into the pottery and will never come off. It measures: 4-3/4 in. diameter and 2-1/2 in. tall. |
Douglas Tafoya was born in 1942 and has been making pottery since 1998. He specializes in stone polished carved bowls, vases, wedding vases and friendship baskets. He digs his clay from the Santa Clara Reservation, uses natural slips, natural paints and fires his pottery outdoors. He was taught by his mother Mary Cain. He is listed in “Fourteen Families”. He also helps his mother with her pots.
